Labor Cabinet Secretary (CS) Alfred Mutua said a Qatari firm in partnership with the country’s Ministry of Labor and Social Protection is conducting interviews in Nairobi from Friday, October 25, 2024, to Sunday, October 27, 2024, to offer employment opportunities to thousands of unemployed Kenyans.

According to a Kenyan Government source, authorities in the country initiated and engaged in talks with Qatar to create and offer over 200,000 job opportunities for Kenyan skilled workers in Qatar across different sectors.

People familiar with the arrangement say among the job openings are thousands of positions for drivers, nurses, chefs, construction workers, hotel maintenance technicians and waitresses.

Sometime ago, the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) reported the unemployment rate of Kenyan youth (15–34 years old) at around 67% while the Kenya Institute of Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) highlighted that over 31% of Kenyan youth are either unemployed or underemployed

Even though estimates of the country’s unemployment rate for youth vary, but the problem of unemployment and poverty are undeniably acute. Thousands of school leavers and university graduates in the country struggle every year to find employment.

Young people in the country also faults the government for corruption and unfilled promises to create more jobs and employment opportunities.
