The 2024 U.S. presidential election will be the 60th quadrennial presidential election, set to be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Voters in each state and the District of Columbia will choose electors to the Electoral College, who will then elect a president and vice president for a term of four years.
The election will reverberate through the country’s economy, climate policy, social issues and geopolitics.
With just days left until Election Day, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are out on the campaign trail. While Trump seeks to defile the odds, Kamala Harris is poised to crack the glass ceiling powerful women (like Victoria Woodhull and Hillary Clinton) before her almost achieve but fell short.
According to several polls, especially CNN Poll of Polls which aggregates and averages a number of recent polls, the race is almost a tie, with Kamala Harris, a career prosecutor, successful lawmaker, and enjoying more favorability.
Based on CNN Poll of Polls, if the margin between the candidates is 3 points or less, there is NO CLEAR LEADER in the race. The latest CNN Poll of Polls includes results from NYT/Siena (10/20-10/23), YouGov/Times of London/SAY24 (10/18-10/21), Fox (10/11-10/14), Marist (10/08-10/10), CBS/YouGov (10/08-10/11
People intending to vote for Trump have thoughtful reasons and those reasons are often inflamed by populist polarizers and media platforms. Among the reasonings that informs and attracts Trumps supporters include Bread on the table, money in the bank issue.
The obvious questions that sit well with the Trump crew is: “Are you better off than you were four years ago?”
For many Trump voters, the response to Ronald Reagan’s famous question is clear: “No.” They accurately remember Trump’s term as one of tax cuts, economic growth and stock market highs.
They also blame the Democrats for what they termed as the “invasion” of the United States by illegal immigrants.
Like economic inflation, the number of people illegally U.S. crossing the border soared under current U.S. President Biden.
The massive influx of “illegal aliens,” as Trump calls them, dropped to its lowest level in four years in July 2024. This happened after the Biden administration made it harder for immigrants to apply for asylum at the U.S.-Mexico border, a policy measure that is in line with many Republicans’ approaches.
According to a report: In 2022, a poll found 7 out of 10 Republicans worried that “open borders” were part of a Democratic plot to expand liberals’ power by replacing conservative white people with nonwhite foreigners.
Trump has played into some people’s mostly false concerns that immigrants living illegally in the U.S. are freeloaders and won’t assimilate, as illustrated by recent – untrue – allegations that immigrants are eating pets in Ohio.
In 2022, 82% of Republicans said they viewed immigration as a “very important” issue. Trump continues to tout his proposed solution, which includes shutting the border, building a wall and deporting 11 million immigrants who are living in the U.S. without legal authorization.
While most of Harris supporter’s dirge Trump’s destruction of democracy and decency in politics, Trump voters see a charismatic leader suited and capable of dealing with the rising power and threat of China, the threats and nuisance of Iran, and the outbreak of conflicts around the world.
The alleged belief is that unlike the Biden-Harris administration that is burdened with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Israel’s invasion of the Gaza Strip, there were no such wars under Trump. The discernment of Trump supporters is that American taxpayers are footing a large portion of the bill, even though other countries are also giving money to Ukraine, and Israel is actually buying weapons from the U.S.
For Trump verse supporters, the political race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump boils down to a matter of a proven record even though Trump is considered as a man whose attitude is morally concerning and whose utterances against other races and nationalities and treatment of people are troubling.
