Story by Reporter Problem Masau

Harare – A Zimbabwe’s Presidential aspirant Peter Munyanduri is campaigning for the 2028 elections in public transport vehicles, popularly known as kombis.

“My name is Peter Munyanduri, 2028 Presidential candidate, please vote for me, ” Munyanduri told fellow passengers in a kombi where this reporter was a passenger.

The New Innovative and Modernisation Front leader said politicians made the mistake of appearing during election time.

“I am already campaigning, I believe I can be the best president for this country,” Munyanduri said.

“The kombi is where Zimbabweans debate everything — from politics to prices of cooking oil. Why shouldn’t our leaders listen (to people) here?

Munyanduri hogged the limelight in the 2018 election after he promised to provide a balanced diet for every Zimbabwean, which includes egg, bacon and milk for breakfast.

He said he would also establish a Fruit Authority of Zimbabwe aimed at establishing forests of fruit trees in the country if voted into office.

He, however, failed to win the election coming a distant fifth.

He did not contest the 2023 presidential election instead opting to run for a parliamentary seat which he lost.

The outspoken leader was kicked out of Political Leaders Actors Dialogue (Polad) platform for criticizing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration before the 2023 elections.

Mnangagwa created Polad following the hotly contested 2018 elections seeking legitimacy after his main rival Nelson Chamisa said the plebiscite was a sham and rigged.

Mnangagwa pampered political principals with top-of-the-range cars and hefty allowances in return for their loyalty and praises.

The Polad members who got less than three percent of the national vote in the 2018 presidential elections received Isuzu D Max vehicles.

“My conscience won’t allow me to keep quiet when I see something wrong. I raised issues of unfair electoral ground. I questioned the issue of rigging. There is unfair coverage of political parties. I also raised the issue of funding. Small parties do not get any funding. I was expelled for that,” Munyanduri said.
