ACCRA, GHANA – Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has departed Ghana to seek further medical evaluation abroad, according to sources close to the Vice President’s office. While details regarding the specific nature of the medical assessment remain undisclosed, officials have confirmed that the trip is for a pre-existing condition and is not considered an emergency.

The announcement, released earlier today, stated that Professor Opoku-Agyemang is expected to undergo a series of routine check-ups and consultations with specialists overseas. The duration of her stay abroad is currently unspecified, but sources suggest she is expected to return to Ghana within a few weeks.

“The Vice President has been managing a pre-existing condition and this trip is a planned opportunity for further evaluation and management,” a statement from the Vice President’s office reportedly said. “We ask for the public’s understanding and respect for her privacy during this time.”

The news has prompted well wishes from across the political spectrum. Members of parliament from both the ruling party and the opposition have publicly expressed their best wishes for the Vice President’s speedy recovery and safe return.

A release signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, the statement assured the public of the government’s support and extended well wishes to the Vice President for a swift recovery.

While the government has maintained a degree of discretion regarding the specific location and nature of the medical assessments, the public has been assured that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the Vice President receives the best possible care.

During Professor Opoku-Agyemang’s absence, President John Dramani Mahama will continue to oversee the affairs of state. The government has assured the public that all official duties will continue uninterrupted, with appropriate arrangements in place to ensure the smooth functioning of the Vice President’s office.

Further updates will be provided as and when appropriate, while respecting the Vice President’s right to privacy regarding her medical matters. The nation collectively wishes Professor Opoku-Agyemang well and looks forward to her swift return.
