Monrovia, Liberia – Liberia is in mourning following the passing of the Honorable John T. Woods, a man widely remembered for his unwavering integrity and selfless dedication to the nation. Tributes have poured in, celebrating his commitment to public service and his profound impact on Liberian society.

Woods, who served in key government positions including the Concession Secretariat and as managing director of the Forestry Development Authority, is being lauded for consistently prioritizing the interests of Liberia above personal gain. In a moving statement released yesterday, a close associate, businessman J. Wendell Addy, reflected on Woods’s character, stating, “In all my many years of association with John T. Woods, I cannot recall a single moment when his words or actions reflected personal political ambition that overshadowed the national interest.”

Addy emphasized that Woods had opportunities to enrich himself through his positions, but instead chose a higher calling. “Had John chosen to manage the Concession Secretariat or the Forestry Development Authority with selfish motives or eagle-eyed greed, he could have easily become a wealthy man—profiting off the backs of the Liberian people,” the tribute continued. “But John chose a higher path. Today, he departs this world not with material riches, but with something far more enduring and priceless: the wealth of a good name and an unblemished reputation.”

The statement further highlighted the significance of a good name, emphasizing that Woods leaves behind a “golden key” for his family, forged from his honor and integrity. The tribute recalled a story about identifying individuals of integrity: “You call out the name—and the person attached to that name will step forward.”

Woods is being remembered as a patriot, a nationalist, and a man of unwavering principle. His commitment to service, compassion, and the betterment of Liberia will serve as an inspiration for generations to come.

“Knowing John was not only a privilege,” Addy’s statement concluded, “but truly a blessing. May his memory live on and inspire generations to come.”

Details regarding funeral arrangements are expected to be announced shortly. The nation joins the Woods family in mourning the loss of this esteemed public servant.
