Travel Isn’t a Luxury — It’s a Lifestyle Shift

By Trinette Waldrup
There was a time when I believed international travel was only for the wealthy, the retired, or the influencers with sponsorship deals. I thought people like me, working long hours, juggling responsibilities, and watching PTO disappear into errands, just weren’t meant for that life.

But then I took my first trip.
And everything changed.

It wasn’t just about the destination. It was about the shift. The mental reset. The feeling of freedom. The reminder that there’s more to life than meetings, routines, and waiting for “one day.” Travel became more than a vacation—it became my healing, my fuel, and eventually, my business.

I’m Trinette Waldrup, a travel entrepreneur, writer, and speaker who’s passionate about helping everyday people explore the world on their own terms. I left the corporate grind behind to create a life with more joy, freedom, and purpose. Now, I help others do the same—whether that’s by planning their first cruise, exploring new cultures, or simply believing that they deserve time off and time away.

As a new contributor to African News Today, I’ll be sharing travel stories, destination tips, and reflections that blend practicality with purpose. My content isn’t just about bucket lists—it’s about life shifts. Because for many of us, travel isn’t just a luxury—it’s a lifestyle change that redefines how we see ourselves and the world.

Here’s what you can expect from me:
– Practical advice for international travel, even with a 9 to 5
– Wellness-focused escapes for burned-out professionals
– Tips for first-time cruisers and group travel lovers
– Cultural deep-dives and Black traveler experiences
– Travel inspiration that feels real, not influencer-perfect

You’ll also see me spotlighting African destinations and diasporic connections, because while my travel lens is global, my roots and reverence for the continent run deep. Whether you’re walking the streets of Lisbon, vibing in Accra, or cruising through the Caribbean, there’s always a story to tell—and I’ll be here to help you tell yours through travel.

So if you’ve ever felt like travel was for “other people,” I’m here to say: it’s for you too. And I’ll be right here, cheering you on as you get passport ready.

Let’s Stay Connected
Have a destination you want me to cover? A travel dream, you’re ready to make real? Let’s talk.
