Speculation grew particularly strong earlier this year following Michelle Obama’s notable absence from certain public events, including what was cited as Donald Trump’s second inauguration and former White House advisor Jared Kushner’s burial – absences that some online interpreted as signs of marital trouble. Further adding to the conjecture were Barack Obama’s vague comments in April about being in a “deep deficit” with his wife, and Michelle’s previous reflections on being an empty nester and embracing independence.
