Monrovia, Liberia – May 24, 2025 – The Indian community in Liberia is in mourning following the passing of Laxmandas T Bhojwani, a distinguished and selfless leader known for his deep commitment to community engagement and religious service. Mr. Bhojwani, who arrived in Liberia in the 1970s, passed away today, Saturday, May 24th, 2025.

Born in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, India, Mr. Bhojwani spent over 50 years in Monrovia, Liberia as the Owner of Maya Liberia (Inc), Chairman of Leonard Travels Pvt Ltd, and President of Geeta Ashram Foundation.

For a decade, Mr. Bhojwani served as the president and leader of Shree Geeta Ashram, a prominent Indian temple located in Water Side LEC Junction, opposite Eco Bank in Monrovia. He was a pillar of strength for both the Indian and Liberian communities, consistently offering support and guidance during times of need.

Described as a man whose life was defined by his extraordinary generosity, Mr. Bhojwani dedicated himself to providing spiritual upliftment and material assistance to countless individuals, particularly women and children. His unwavering commitment to putting others first left an indelible mark on the lives he touched.

“His generosity wasn’t just about material things; it was about his heart, his empathy, and his willingness to help in any way he could,” a community member shared.

Beyond his religious leadership, Mr. Bhojwani fostered strong relationships between the Indian community and the broader Liberian population. He championed the values of giving back, the importance of community, and the profound impact of a kind heart.

“Laxmandas T Bhojwani’s life taught the Indian community in Liberia and Liberians alike the value of giving back, the importance of community, and the power of a kind heart,” a statement released by Shree Geeta Ashram read. “He was a truly remarkable man, and we will forever miss his presence in our lives.”

News of Mr. Bhojwani’s passing has been met with widespread sadness. Several officials of the Liberian government have expressed their regrets and condolences to the bereaved family and the Indian community, acknowledging his significant contributions to the country.

The legacy of Laxmandas T Bhojwani will undoubtedly live on as a testament to the power of selfless service and the enduring bonds of community.

The city of Monrovia is in mourning following the passing of Laxmandas T. Bhojwani, a prominent religious leader, businessman and philanthropist, described as an “icon of the Liberian capital” by City Manager Jones N. Williams.
