Abuja, Nigeria – In a dramatic move to position itself as a formidable opposition force, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced a complete leadership overhaul, with former Senate President David Mark and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola taking the helm as interim National Chairman and Secretary, respectively. The announcement came during an event held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja on Wednesday, where the ADC was unveiled as the platform for a planned opposition coalition aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the 2027 elections.

According to Ralph Nwosu, the founding National Chairman of the ADC, the decision for existing leaders to step down was voluntary and strategic. “We all decided to resign so that Mark, Aregbesola and others can lead us to the Villa,” Nwosu stated. He emphasized the significance of the incoming leadership, adding, “When you look at the two of them and their commitment to this country, you’ll see that this is a new beginning. They will reposition the party and Nigeria.”

The move signals a bold attempt by the ADC to attract prominent political figures and broaden its appeal ahead of the next general election. By bringing in seasoned politicians like Mark and Aregbesola, the party hopes to leverage their experience, networks, and public profiles to galvanize support and present a united front against the current administration.

The unveiling event and the announcement of the new leadership team has already generated significant buzz within the political landscape, with many analysts speculating on the potential impact of this strategic shift on the 2027 political landscape. The success of the coalition and the ability of Mark and Aregbesola to effectively reposition the ADC will be closely watched in the coming months as the nation gears up for the next election cycle.
