Ethio-India Relations Poised for Further Growth, Says House Speaker

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Relations between Ethiopia and India are gaining significant momentum, with both nations expressing a strong desire to elevate their collaboration across a multitude of sectors, according to Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives, Tagesse Chaffo.

Speaker Tagesse made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation of Indian parliamentarians visiting Ethiopia. He emphasized the continuously evolving ties between the two countries and expressed confidence that the parliamentary delegation’s visit would further strengthen those bonds.

“We have a special place for India because of our relationship, and it’s going very well,” Speaker Tagesse stated. “So I think your visit will add (some) steps ahead. We value the relationship between Ethiopia and India, and also, not only the political, bilateral or multilateral level, but also people to people relationship and economic relationships are also highly valued. So we appreciate the economic ties between Ethiopia and India, the political, bilateral and multilateral relationships on all platforms.”

He further highlighted the significant contributions that Indian investors are making to Ethiopia’s economic development.

Ambassador Dina Mufti, a member of the Standing Committee for Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs of the House of People’s Representatives, also attended the meeting. He emphasized the long-standing and historical ties between Ethiopia and India, which were a central theme of the discussions.

β€œIn the discussion, they had recalled the ties between the two nations are rooted in history, established on a solid foundation, with Ethiopia eager to boost cooperation across various sectors, and India also keen to deepen its relationship with Ethiopia,” Ambassador Dina explained. Both nations have pledged to enhance their partnerships in every area and elevate the relationship further.

Ambassador Dina also acknowledged the crucial role Indian educators have played in shaping Ethiopia’s education system.

The discussions underscored the commitment of both Ethiopia and India to build on their existing foundation and forge a stronger, more comprehensive partnership across various fields, signifying a promising future for Ethio-India relations.
