Geneva: Morocco condemns Israeli violations in occupied Palestinian territories

By Esther Edoh

Geneva, Switzerland – Morocco expressed “deep concern” over the escalating situation in the occupied Palestinian territories during a session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, strongly condemning recent Israeli military operations. The Moroccan delegation voiced its concerns over what it described as a rapid deterioration of the situation, emphasizing the need for an immediate cessation of violence and a return to meaningful dialogue.

The delegation specifically criticized Israeli military actions in the West Bank, labelling them as violations of international law and posing serious threats to the safety of Palestinian civilians and their ability to access vital humanitarian aid. Morocco denounced the destruction of homes, the displacement of families, and the obstruction of humanitarian aid convoys, painting a stark picture of a cycle of violence that exacerbates suffering and instability.

“We strongly condemn these actions that only serve to deepen the suffering and undermine any prospect for a peaceful resolution,” a member of the Moroccan delegation stated. “The international community must act decisively to protect Palestinian rights and ensure accountability for these violations.”

Morocco called for an immediate end to the violence and urged a swift resumption of credible political dialogue aimed at achieving a lasting and just peace. The delegation emphasized the necessity of a coordinated international effort to safeguard the rights and security of the Palestinian people.

Furthermore, the Kingdom reiterated the importance of the roadmap adopted at the Cairo summit regarding reconstruction efforts in the affected areas. Morocco insisted that these efforts should be led by Palestinian authorities with clear and effective oversight to ensure transparency and accountability.

In closing, Morocco reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to a just and lasting political solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The delegation emphasized that only through such a resolution can true peace, security, and dignity be guaranteed for all parties involved. This stance underscores Morocco’s continued role in advocating for a peaceful resolution to the conflict and its commitment to upholding international law and humanitarian principles.
